This piece is part of a series of spiral works. The circles, which form coded messages, aren’t painted but are formed by making very precise cuts in the canvas.

The structure is reminiscent of a galaxy. The perforations, with their pitch-black background, therefore also represent black holes, as metaphors for that which is unknowable and infinite.

In Square 2.1, Joris carefully follows every dot in the spiral, slowly circling towards the centre of the piece.
